Marine Project Manager

Job Summary:
The Marine Project Manager will develop project plans and deliverables, direct all project phases and act as the primary contact on marine design and engineering projects for the company.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Coordinates staffing for each phase of the project; obtains approval and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project team members and/or subcontractors.
• Confers with project staff to outline work plan and assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority; motivates and directs project team members and subcontractors to take positive action to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget; provides or facilitates technical advice and problem resolution support.

Daily Duties/Responsibilities:
• Defines and creates project plans considering time frame, funding limitations, staffing requirements, regulations, resource availability and customer contractual requirements.
• Acts as liaison between customer, project staff, subcontractors, vendors, and internal company personnel.
• Manages development of project execution strategy including planning, vessel selection, vessel modification, vendor, and subcontractor support and contractual requirements.
• Ensures company performance against contractual commitments with customer and ensures customer satisfaction with projects of low to moderate complexity and risk.
• Follows established processes for monitoring and integrating all project elements and communications concerning changed management processes and decisions.
• Coordinates operational aspects and ensures communications to align on project delivery criteria.
• Uses financial reporting and other performance measures to develop/modify project plans to mitigate risk.
• Negotiates small to medium project or contract changes and incorporates changes into project control systems to maintain work statements, cost, and schedule baselines.
• Ensures all projects adhere to project methodology compliance standards set by the company.
• Tracks project deliverables and prepares project reports for management or customers to ensure appropriate project cadence.
• Evaluates project upon close-out and documents lessons learned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of the maritime industry required.
• Understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
• Proven project management track record driving projects to 100% completion, on schedule and to company/customer satisfaction.

Education and Experience:

• Working towards a Project Management Professional Certification a plus.

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD PCL throughout employment required.

Physical Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs 2D & 3D modeling, drafting, and drawing tasks using Parametric and 2D CAD software.
  • Work under the direction of senior engineering management staff, and or her designate to support the CAD needs of various projects.
  • Familiarity with vessel systems to include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into a project or area design.
  • Interpret vendor/fabricator shop drawings and interact with vendors to determine and source components for given projects.
  • Produce professional drawings in compliance with accepted drawing standards when provided technical input and guidance.
  • Assist in minor duties in the engineering fabrication shop during prototype fabrication.
  • Prepare or revise engineering drawings in accordance with the marked-up prints, sketches, or verbal instructions provided by senior staff.
  • Create multiple view drawings with appropriate details and section views, dimensions, and tolerances per department drafting standards.
  • Perform basic weight and moment calculations for all removed and added items.
  • Assist engineers in documenting boundaries for system alterations onboard vessels.
  • Responsible for physically measuring and documenting equipment sizes, locations and orientations and generating scaled electronic depictions of equipment layout as well as any interfacing systems (structure, mechanical, power, network).
  • Correctly develop plan, section, and elevation views for drawings to adequately capture details
  • In addition to computer drafting, some manual drafting may be required.
  • Assist in providing part details, nesting plans, and CNC coding.
  • Make drawing changes to existing components and facilitate the release of ECN (Engineering Change Notice) to production.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Associates Degree in related field plus 4 years work experience using 2D and 3D CAD software in marine or aerospace industry supporting electrical power and integration design.
  • Proficiency using 2D and 3D CAD software such as Auto CAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, Rhino, ShipConstructor, and Inventor.

Duties and Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

On a full-time basis, the Naval Architect would design, develop, and evaluate the construction and design of commercial surface vessels, unmanned vessels and combatant craft in the areas of hydrodynamics, system design, concept development, and integration analysis. The Naval Architect would conduct hull form and hydrodynamic performance assessment, including analyzing the development of hull form geometry and lines plans, hydrostatics and curves of form, resistance and powering estimates, and propulsor design and performance.

 

Duties to include appendage design, maneuvering analyses, seakeeping analyses, analysis of the development of model test plans, and observing and analyzing data from model tests or full-scale trials. Lead and perform architectural and engineering work for the form, strength, stability, performance, and seakeeping characteristics of new vessels or plans to alter existing vessels, and recommend and implement design changes, as necessary. Conduct hydrostatic, weight, and stability analyses, including center of gravity, buoyancy estimates, and trim, including intact and damaged stability analyses.

 

Conduct and analyze structural design, developing hull girder bending moments and structural configurations and scantlings in accordance with appropriate rules or design standards, development of superstructure, mast, and local support structure to withstand primary and secondary loads.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or PE License in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience involving, vessel feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, design integration, stability analysis, structural analysis, hydrodynamic and sea keeping analysis and vessel arrangements.

  • S. Citizenship required and the ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security clearance throughout employment.

Duties and Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • On a full-time basis, the Structural Engineer would lead and perform engineering work for the structural design of new craft or plans to alter existing craft, and recommend and implement design changes, as necessary.
  • Develop and analyze structure for both composite, aluminum, and steel vessels in accordance with appropriate rules​, design standards and first principle calculations.
  • Work with designers to develop hull scantlings and structural detail drawings.
  • Perform hull girder bending moments checks.
  • Calculate expected loads based on the vessel design speed and sea state.
  • Design lift fittings and develop hoisting drawings.
  • Composite structure design and analysis will include carbon fiber and Kevlar, in addition to fiberglass.
  • Work with team to determine best approach for hull lamination processes whether vacuum bagged, pre-preg, or hand-layup on a project basis.
  • Design superstructure, mast, and local support structure to withstand primary and secondary loads.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical, Ocean, Aerospace, or PE License in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience involving, craft feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, design integration, structural analysis, and vessel arrangements.
